Daniel Savard, Skipper
Daniel had a vision to restore the M.V. Songhee to a new glory - one of a floating inn. After purchasing the vessel from a fishing lodge, this one time navy ship saw a complete overhaul. Daniel worked for a year to complete his goal, and the Swept Away Inn was opened in 2014. The time and effort have not gone unrewarded, as Daniel and Bouchra have earned the "Super Host" designation from Airbnb, as well as community awards for their hospitality.
Bouchra Zouhou, Chef
Bouchra grew up in Morocco and learned to cook at her mother’s side. Her passion for "real, slow food" is apparent in each dish that is presented at the table. Her passion for Moroccan-French cuisine is apparent in the hours spent sourcing local, organic ingredients and preparing her own combination of flavourful spices. Reservations are essential for the prix-fixe 4 course dinner menus -seating is limited and word has spread both near and far as diner extol the virtues of Bouchra's cuisine.
Daniel and Bouchra left Ontario in 2013, with plans of seaside living on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. While completing renovations on their tug, the couple fell in love with Port Alberni and decided to be a permanent fixture on Centennial Pier. "Everyone was just so welcoming," Bouchra said. "It felt like we were immediately adopted by Port Alberni."
Guests from far and wide have come to stay at the Swept Away Inn, enjoying the couple's warm hospitality and outstanding food. "Our goal is to see the world through our guests," says Daniel.
